LLANDEILO councillors are to ask county planners to allay concerns over the proposed 215-home development on the outskirts of town.

A specially-arranged meeting was held in the Shire Hall last Wednesday and councillors drew up a list of questions they want answered regarding the scheme, planned for the Northern Residential Quarter.

The site, which is around 10 hectares, is located between the new Llys Pencrug development to the west and Rhosmaen Street to the east.

The project aims to create a high quality development reflecting local character while also creating an attractive northern gateway, and a public exhibition is planned for the town shortly.

But councillors remain unconvinced and are believed to be planning a list of questions for county council planners before they have their say on the proposals.

Among their concerns are the impact it will have on Llandeilo and a worry about flooding.

They also have concerns over whether the homes would be bought plus traffic implications.

Carmarthenshire Council officials said town councillors would be fully consulted.

The county council’s forward planning manager Jon Timothy said: “The county council recognises the important role of Llandeilo Town Council as a consultee in the planning and development brief for the Northern Quarter.

“A formal consultation will be undertaken on the content of the document during a 12-week period, and any views the town council may have will be welcomed.”
