Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman pupil Martha O’Neil certainly has a busy few weeks this month. She has been invited to sing on Family Day this Saturday at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod, and also at the closing ceremony. Then on Sunday, July 19 she will be appearing in front of an expected crowd of more than 5,000 alongside Only Men Aloud! and Shan Cothi at the Big Ponty Weekend in Pontypridd.
Yet it is not surprising Martha has the performing bug – her late father Joe O’Neil was PR to Katherine Jenkins, Aled Jones, Bryn Terfel and Only Men Aloud!.
“I’m so excited – it’s such an honour to be invited to sing at these really prestigious events,” she said.
“I’ve been to Llangollen a number of times in the past, and I can’t believe I’ve been invited to perform there this year. The atmosphere there is always really wonderful and it’s so colourful. I’m really looking forward to singing with a big band at The Big Ponty Weekend too. My dad would be so proud.”
Martha has had a very busy year and has twice sung on Wedi 3 and Mosgito. She has also been filming a documentary with the BBC.
