A LLANDOVERY man has been convicted of burgling a newsagent close to his home.
Jonathan Rhys Williams, aged 24, of Stone Street, admitted taking cigarettes and magazines worth £350 from newsagent Eric Davies last month.
Prosecutor Natasha Moran told Ammanford magistrates that Williams broke in through a front door panel on June 7.
Later that night police saw him make off away from them with a rucksack on his back.
She said officers made a search for him and went to an address where he had been seen on a previous occasion.
They saw him leap from one roof to another and from one of the roofs they recovered the rucksack and its stolen contents.
Williams had previous convictions for burglary and theft.
Kate Williams, defending, said Williams had not pre-planned the burglary and that it had followed a heavy drinking session.
She told the court he had recently been made redundant from employment in a warehouse.
“He knows the time has come for him to take responsibility for his actions,” she said.
The magistrates adjourned the case to Llanelli court on July 14 for the preparation of a probation report.
