A GWAUN CAE GURWEN woman has expressed disgust after she and her sister were asked to leave an Isle of Wight shop for speaking Welsh.
Rosemary Dean, from Maes Gareth Edwards, and her sister Ann were asked by shop manager Sue Pratley to speak English. A bust-up ensued and the sisters were asked to leave the Grange Gifts store.
Mrs Edwards described the situation as “unbelievable.”
Sue Pratley admitted asking the sisters to leave. “I made a comment that I wished they would speak English but they took issue with it,” she said.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission confirmed they had received a complaint.
