Health and safety issues delay car park

THERE is no end in sight for the parking chaos surrounding Llandybie primary school, dismayed community councillors have learnt.

Members in the past have raised concerns about the lack of suitable parking areas, which they fear heightens the chances of a serious accident.

Although the new landlord of the Red Lion had earned widespread praise for allowing use of the pub car park, they hoped a more permanent car park could result from the completion of a nearby housing development.

But now community clerk Megan Bevan has revealed that much-needed parking space is still unavailable because Carmarthenshire County Council is taking legal action against the developer.

In a letter, a spokesman for the authority explained that the provision of a car park was still unresolved for health and safety reasons.

He added that the local authority was also considering taking legal action to enforce a Section 106 agreement, used to provide facilities for the community.

“This matter is in the hands of our legal department – the position is unfortunate for all concerned,” he said.

Council chairman Llinos Evans said: “I think this whole situation is absolutely terrible.”
