A TRAINLINE running through the Amman Valley and into Pontarrdawe and beyond could move a step nearer this week as showdown talks are held with all interested parties.

A public meeting into the prospects of the Amman Valley loopline takes place at Cwmgors RFC on Friday and politicians as well as community and actions groups from throughout the area will be in attendance.

The Scoping Summit has been set up in an attempt to push forward Amman Valley Railway Society’s plan for an Amman Valley Loop line to run to Pontardawe and into Swansea.

Mike Smith, executive director of the society, said the meeting gave all parties involved the chance to come together to establish the best way forward.

“We hope that the result of this meeting will be that the loopline figures in SWWITCH’s (South West Wales Integrated Consort- ium) future plans.

“This is a huge meeting for the area and I think that pretty much everybody we’ve spoken to is for the plan.

“I hope that we get a good turnout because out of everybody I’ve spoken to about it, only two people have been against the proposals.

“Obviously this will make a huge difference to the area because we hope to run the line down to Pontardawe, via Rhydyfro, and then through Clydach and Morriston and into Swansea,” he said.

Registration for the meeting takes place at 9.30am while the summit starts at 10am.
