PRINCE Charles was met with a face from his past at a reception at his Myddfai home on Monday night.
Llandovery mace bearer, Les Adams, aged 81, has been in the job for so long he carried the rod at the prince’s 1969 investiture.
At the reception in Llwynywormwood — thrown specially for the prince’s neighbours — Les said the royal was surprised to see a photo of them together.
“I showed him a photo I’ve kept very safely since then, that shows me and my brother, Cyril, standing in the crowd of officials behind the prince,” he said.
“He was delighted to see the photo and was asking all about my role.”
Les was joined as a mace bearer at the Llwynywormwood event by his brother, George, who took on Cyril’s role when he passed away.
It was the first soiree of a week of hospitality by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, who are spending time at their Welsh home on their official summer visit.
Earlier in the day they met representatives of Llandovery-based charity Prime Cymru. Their week in Wales will culminate with the Prince opening the new stand at Llandovery Rugby Club tomorrow night (Thursday).
