Cwmaman United 4 Cwmbran Celtic 1 Macron Welsh League Division 3
CWMAMAN started the new year on a high - especially after their defeat of the previous week - and romped to a four-goal win over Cwmbran Celtic.
The home side had new signing Steve Francis on show and he enjoyed a great debut for his new club.
Cwmaman took the lead after 15 minutes when Chris Williams scored after a mix-up in the Cwmbran's defence, but ten minutes later Cwmbran were on level terms with a disputed goal.
Firstly Rob Griffiths was harshly penalised which resulted in a free-kick.
From the resulting kick, goalkeeper Richard Walton was clearly pushed but the referee awarded the goal.
Cwmaman then took the lead for the second time just before the interval when good work from Luke Rice released Chris Williams to score his second.
United started the second half where they left off the first and were playing well.
It was only a matter of time before they scored and captain Paul Pugh almost burst the net with a thunderous shot to add to his previous week's brace.
Cwmaman soon scored their fourth when another well taken goal from Mark James made the game safe.
Steve Francis played well and marshalled the back four with authority.
Chris Williams also played well but it has to be said this was a good team performance from all.
l Cwmaman are away to Risca next week while the reserves are home to AFC Llwydcoed. Cwmaman thirds are home to Oxford.
