Lloyds TSB National League Division 5 (West) Ammanford RFC 15 Lampeter RFC 29

AT THE halfway stage of the season Ammanford, who were one of the favourites for promotion, seem to have lost their way. In every game they have been in contention or leading going into the last quarter but have ended up losing seven games up to this point.

Coaches Gareth Potter and Jeff Price will have to turn things around during the second half of the season and the players, especially, need to show far more commitment and muck together to turn things around.

Again against visitors Lampeter, Ammanford were more than a match. Excellent tries from wingers Martin Davies and Ryan Davies in the first half saw the home side well in contention at half-time, trailing 15-10.

But their perennial problem of failing to turn possession into points creeped to the surface once again.

Scrum-half Ioan Jones pulled the sides level at 15-15 with the third try, but in the last quarter Lampeter's pack were far more dominant and gave the home eight a lesson in rucking and mauling. Two late tries won them the game, which they deserved by showing more vigour and control up front.

The final score was a fair result but the Ammanford players new once again that this was another game they could, and should, have won.

Next Saturday Glais are the visitors to the RFC. Kick off 2.30pm.
