CWMAMAN once again outplayed the opposition only to come away with nothing.

This was a game that the visitors really should have won and their only consolation was the fact that they didn't let more league points slip.

They did, however, go out of the cup in somewhat disappointing fashion as Goytre gained only their first win in four matches against Cwmaman.

Cwm started brightly and Gareth Jones should have put them ahead but his shot just cleared the crossbar.

Dean Jenkins was next to go close as he saw his effort fly wide.

Goytre then started to create chances, especially profiting from the height advantage that their centre forward had.

Cwm were somewhat fortunate that he could not direct his headers goalward as they were let off the hook on a couple of occasions.

Richard Walton's long kicks continued to cause all sorts of problems to the home defence, but the score remained goalless at the interval.

Games between these two sides are always a tight affair and the feeling among both sets of supporters was that one goal would settle it.

Goytre opened the scoring after 55 minutes when Cwmaman's defence went to sleep and allowed a free header inside the six-yard box.

However, Cwmaman's reply was immediate when Gary Davies was tripped inside the penalty area and Aneurin Evans slotted the resulting spot kick for his seventh goal of the season.

Cwmaman then turned on the pressure and went looking for the winner only to be undone yet again with a free header inside the six-yard area.

Cwmaman introduced two substitutes as they chased the game and one of them, Lee Jenkins, very nearly equalising with a fine header that just crept over the bar.

Gary Davies's long free-kick had the home keeper flapping and in all sorts of trouble near the end, but he just managed to scramble the ball away for a corner.

The final whistle was blown much to the relief of the home supporters as Cwmaman were left to ponder what might have been.

CWMAMAN'S second string once again scored three goals against strong opposition - only to see the visitors score more.

Ultimately two goals from Jeff Matthews and one for Tim Hendra in an entertaining game were not enough for the home team to overcome a very young but talented Pontardawe side.
