CWMAMAN once again defied the critics by gaining a notable win against league-leaders Treharris.

Treharris started the brighter of the two sides but as the first half progressed Cwmaman started to find their feet.

The home side opened the scoring after 20 minutes when neat work by Roy Tomlinson set up Gary Davies who still had a lot of work to do before his deft chip from 20 yards left the Treharris keeper mesmerised and a bit red-cheeked.

Treharris's equaliser came after 35 minutes when a needless free-kick was given away by the home defence and a neatly taken dead ball situation ended in Chris Reddy firing in a great goal.

The half ended with a couple of cautions and this set up an interesting second half.

Treharris came out of the blocks quickly after the break and deservedly took the lead after ten minutes through prolific scorer Justin Clarkson.

Then the fireworks came as yellow cards were being handed out all over the place.

Cwmaman made wholesale changes and pushed Nathan Davies up front and he had a great chance to equalise but the away keeper did well to save.

With time running out Davies's neat forward header let in Roy Tomlinson to equalise with very little normal time to play.

Immediately from the restart Nathan Davies received his second yellow card and was dismissed from the field of play.

Treharris could now sense that they could go on and sneak a win but with already many minutes played of injury time, Cwmaman found the winner when Steve Williams broke clear of the centre-half and drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the net sending the home crowd wild.

The game was still far from over as the referee indicated that there was still six minutes to play.

Treharris pushed for the equalise but great defending from Aled Rees, John Jones, Nathan McNeil and Terence Bradley did the trick for the home side and they held on for a very good victory and three precious points.

Cwmaman's Steve Williams and Gareth Jones deserve a big mention for their tireless running.

On Saturday Cwmaman are home to Chepstow Town.
