THE SEAT held by Plaid Cymru MP Adam Price has been earmarked as a key target for Labour in this year's election.

A leaked report reveals that Labour plans to pump extra resources into 106 seats in England and Wales - 105 of them already held by its own MPs.

Mr Price, MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, said he couldn't believe it when he heard that his seat was so important to Labour.

"I see this as a big compliment," he said. "It is a tribute to Plaid's good work.

"I look forward to welcoming Mr Blair's helicopter to Ammanford and asking the Prime Minister why he has spent so much time forging links with Mr Bush rather than the people of Ammanford."

Mr Price, who tried to impeach the Prime Minister last year, added: "I am glad that Plaid Cymru has rattled Labour's cage.

"We will offer the people of Wales a better deal built on the values of compassion and community."

Ross Hendry, Labour parliamentary candidate, said he is not prepared to become embroiled in personal attacks.

He said: "I am preparing for a clean fair fight.

"Labour feel I have a good chance of winning this seat.

"It is going to be a very close contest."

Mr Hendry said as a local man he is preparing to represent the local community, even if that means going against Government policy.

"I joined the Labour party because I wanted to help people," he added.

"If the constituents feel the policy is wrong, then I will speak out," he said.
