QUESTIONS have been raised about the circumstances surrounding the death of an Ammanford motorcyclist killed in a collision with a police car five months ago.

Kevin Adrian Evans, 39, was fatally injured in the crash on Betws Road, Betws, at 11.35pm on October 29. His grieving mother, Kathleen Lord, lost her husband Geoff through cancer just eight weeks later.

Now a motorcyclists’ watchdog says he has lodged a formal complaint with Dyfed-Powys Police over a “lack of transparency” surrounding the case.

Jonathan Heppell, an adviser to members of the motorcycling community and their associates who come into conflict with the police, said: “In this case there is a marked reluctance to disseminate the information regarding the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident given that it happened some five months ago.”

Mr Heppell says he is also “surprised” the Independent Police Complaints Commission is referring all enquiries back to Dyfed-Powys Police.

“Based on the Press reports this appeared to be no more sinister than an accident between a motorcycle and a police vehicle late at night,” he said.

“Fatal accident investigations are usually concluded within days or sometimes weeks.

“Major criminal enquiries run into months so what is Dyfed Powys investigating exactly?

“Other police forces seem to conclude their investigation of similar accidents far quicker.

“Indeed there was another far more recent fatal accident in Dyfed Powys Police area involving one of their vehicles and a member of the public who sadly died.

“The circumstances of that accident were made public within days on the IPCC website.”

Mr Evans’s brother, Andrew, said: : “We have had no contact with the police, but I don’t wish to say anything further at this stage.”

A police spokeswoman said: “A request for information has been received which is being dealt with by the appropriate department.

“The road traffic collision is still under investigation. The investigation is being supervised by the IPCC.”
