LOCAL politicians have voiced concern at the impending closure of Ammanford's Woolworths store with the loss of 22 jobs.

The store is among 807 throughout Britain having to shut after administrators failed to find a buyer for the stricken high street chain.

Among those losing their jobs at Ammanford is Delyth Thomas who - after 44 years' service - is thought to be Woolies' longest -serving employee in Wales.

"The last few weeks have been a very uncertain and difficult period for everyone connected with the store," said local MP Adam Price.

The staff have shown an excellent attitude keeping the customer service standards we have come to expect from them.

" It is a huge blow to the town that an important employer such as Woolworths has been forced to close its doors."

AM Rhodri Glyn Thomas described the closure as a "challenging" time " It is important now that the store does not remain empty for long and create an eyesore in the middle of Ammanford.

" Hopefully a use can be made of the premises and fresh jobs can be made available."
