A LOCAL school has been praised for its "robust care" of pupils.

Ysgol Blaenau was lauded by inspectors who said it provides a robust support system and nurtures a 'productive learning environment.'

Estyn found that, directed by the headteacher’s clear objectives and policies, the school works rigorously towards catering to each pupil’s requirements.

The positivity generated by the school was observed by inspectors during their visit in January; their findings have since been released.

The pupils, they remarked, exhibit 'positive attitudes towards learning' and upheld good conduct in school, treating each other with respect and expressing school spirit with their proud performance of the school anthem: "Ysgol Blaenau yn ein calonnau ni: Teulu Ysgol Blaenau ydyn ni!"

"The support provided for pupils is robust, which includes a close link with parents.

"Pupils are given valuable opportunities to develop their personal skills and to become active citizens," states the report, illustrating the nurturing nature of the school’s framework.

The report further commended the adept curriculum planning by the teachers, acknowledging how they successfully managed to engage and retain the interest of the pupils, ultimately enriching their learning experiences.

The role and vision of headteacher Geraldine Jenkins were highlighted.

The report praised her for creating an environment of care and respect, and establishing high benchmarks for herself, her staff and her students.

In response to the report, the headteacher stated: "I’m very proud of the report which has captured first hand the happy, supportive and inclusive community that Ysgol Blaenau is.

"I’m extremely grateful to all the staff, our pupils, their families, governors and the wider community for their continued support.

"We are a small school, however we have a very big heart and can achieve great things by working together as a team."

Peter Roberts, chairman of the governing body, shared his delight over Estyn’s recognition of their efforts, commending the hard work of the staff, and also the steadfast leadership of Mrs Jenkins.

He reiterated how integral Ysgol Blaenau is to the community, referring to the school’s resilience through the years of challenges and ability to build upon past strengths.
