RESIDENTS across parts of Carmarthenshire will be without a mobile banking branch as it is set to close in 2024.

Lloyds Bank has been running its Llanelli mobile bank branch route - which also covers Llandeilo, Llandovery, Newcastle Emlyn and Burry Port – to help customers following the closure of the bank’s branches in the area.

The branches closed in the 2010s, with Llandovery’s in 2017 and Newcastle Emlyn’s in 2019. The mobile bank branch route allows for Lloyds Bank customers to visit a location on set days of the week to do their banking or get questions answered with a Lloyd’s Bank member of staff.

But from May 2024, the Llanelli route will be closing, meaning that this service will not be available from then. This is due to a drop in customer’s use of the service.

A spokesperson for Lloyds Bank said: “As many customers now choose to bank online or through their mobile app, visits to our mobile bank branch have fallen significantly over recent years.

“The local Post Office offers everyday banking, with cash also available at close by free-to-use ATMs, alongside other ways to bank such as online, phone and mobile banking services.”

Lloyds Bank has said that more than 66 per cent of its personal customers already use other means of banking including mobile, internet or phone branches, as well as visiting other branches that are in nearby towns. The nearest Lloyds bank for residents in Carmarthenshire is now in Ammanford, Carmarthen or Llanelli.

There will be a community banker visiting the areas following the end of the mobile bank branch route, who will be offering face to face support for customers for as long as communities need it. These locations for the community banker will be discussed with local communities as well as the days.
