Council services in Carmarthenshire - from schools and leisure centres to refuse collections and benefits - will be disrupted this week due to strike action.

Many of the council's 9,000 employees will not be working on Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 18 following an announcement of a UK-wide strike by Unison and Unite/T&G.

The council met with the above Trade Unions on Friday morning to discuss the effect of the industrial action on council services, and to agree the list of exemptions.

Emergency cover will be provided for home care; residential homes for older people, those with learning disabilities and children; social care work and the emergency provision of meals on wheels.

Employees from the council's emergency Careline service for vulnerable people are also exempt from the strike.
