STROKE patients in a Carmarthenshire hospital will be able to benefit from extra support thanks to donations from the public.
Hywel Dda Health Charities – the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board – has used donations from the public to fund two specialist chairs worth more than £5,000.
The chairs were bought for the Gwenllian Ward in Glangwili Hospital and are tilt-in-space chairs, which will offer postural support for patients who cannot remain in an upright position for a sustained period of time.
Claire Richards, clinical lead physiotherapist at the hospital, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the donations that have enabled these chairs to be purchased for Gwenllian Ward.
“The chairs are a great benefit to patients on the ward as they aid in managing their posture, tone and positioning. They will empower the patient to get out of bed despite the severity of their stroke and support their physical and psychological recovery.”
Nicola Llewelyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
