Carmarthenshire is set for the biggest transport grant in Wales after it was announced the county is in line for a £906,929 boost.

The money announced by Welsh Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones is for local bus services under the Assembly Government's Local Transport Services Grant.

Local politicians Rhodri Glyn Thomas and Helen Mary Jones have welcomed the news as "a real improvement" for bus passengers in the area.

"I am delighted Ieuan Wyn Jones has allocated a figure like this to Carmarthenshire," said Mr Thomas. "Clearly he has recognised the investment that is needed in our communities.

"The money is very welcome at present given the cost of fuel for running a car."

Ms Jones said bus services were essential in such a rural area.

"This money will play a crucial role in helping passengers in the Carmarthenshire and Llanelli areas," she added.

Perhaps this money will go towards early services for commuters wishing to travel between Llandybie and Swansea before 8.00am.
The 06.10 from Ammanford to Swansea is subsidised by Carmarthen County Council. Perhaps this service could be extended to include Llandybie as a starting point.

Maybe they can subsidise bus routes to
everywhere in west Glamorgan as it seems
most people in east carmarthenshire have to
go there to find work. There is a mass
exodus evary morning.

Don't be fooled by the spin - this is an annual grant and is LOWER than previous years - so it's a cash CUT not a cash boost, this story has obviously not been researched properly.
