GLANAMAN residents have spoken of their anger and fear after their street was invaded by a pack of foxhounds on Saturday morning.

People living in Llwyncelyn Road say the peace of their "quiet, country road" was shattered by a pack of around 30 dogs and followers of what they claim was an illegal hunt pursuing a fox.

They say the marauding dogs were out of control and forced residents to keep their frightened children and pet dogs indoors.

"My mum was coming home from shopping when all of a sudden these hounds came running down the hill," mum-of-three Jen Morris-Benedek told the Guardian.

She described how neighbours tried to coax the fox into a garage for its own protection, but the terrified animal still managed to bolt to freedom.

"The dogs were out of control and we could hear the hunters two fields up the mountain," said Ms Morris-Benedek. "No-one was near those dogs.

"The noise they were making was absolutely horrific. At one point we could tell they'd got something because of the din they were making."

Ms Morris-Benedek said she then received "a load of abuse" from a hunt follower. "He said he'd kill as many foxes as he liked and he didn't care for my children," she said.

"My eight-year-old daughter isn't stupid but why should I have to lie to her when she asks me what those dogs were doing?"

Another resident, Greg Rickard, said he was "absolutely disgusted" by what happened.

"They were like maniacs, shouting and screaming - there were dogs all over the road and through our gardens," he said.

"I've got dogs of my own but I was too frightened to let them out. I thought it was an offence not to control dogs.

"The law is an ass if you ask me and these huntsmen are getting away with murder.

"Once they have killed off all the foxes and other wildlife what will they start on next?"

A spokesman for Ammanford police confirmed a complaint was received but no arrests had been made.

Normally dog owners who let their animals run riot in the countryside or towns are slapped with hefty fines which run into thousands of pounds.
But if those dog owners happen to be hunters they seem to be immune to the laws. Both the police and the politicians are too scared to take on the hunting lobby which is bankrolling the Conservative Party in the hope of overturning the hunting ban after the next election. So much for decency and democracy.

When will the Police enforce the law against hunting wild animals? They do nothing while the illegal hunters laugh at them (and laugh at those who democratically voted for a ban).

The police are obviously in the pocket of this hunt, otherwise why haven't they gone ahead and done something about these vile illegal hunters.
They would I'm sure be after the likes of you and me if we stepped out of line. They'd also have us prosecuted and our dogs destroyed. No wonder people don't have any respect for the law anymore. And I say that as the wife of an officer working for North Wales Police.

Not that any are needed, but this is yet another example of how hunters believe the
law of the law does not apply to them, and
also, worryingly, how the police seem to be
too gutless to do anything about it...
Haven't these hunters got anything better to
do with their time and energy?

Clearly both our police and government are corrupt and weak as alluded to by previous contributors here ! In the meantime our precious wildlife continue to be slaughtered by these vile hooray henry's and there followers. For goodness sake lets keep the Tories out at the next General Election and then press for strengthening the bill and proper policing.

I live merely a few miles from where this unpleasant and potentially disastrous incident took place. The hunter who didn't care for this woman's children, this man is clearly dangerous and needs locking up. I have to say that in my experience I agree wholeheartedly with the posts from previous commenters here. The police will never arrest these people, they are too spineless as the hunt in question are persons of wealth and power, that's about it really. One law for some, another for the rest of us. So much indeed for democracy.
