PLANS to expand a major Llandeilo housing development have to be considered very carefully.
That is the belief of town councillors, who are seeking a presentation from developers Davies Richards, to learn more details of the planned expansion of the Pencrug development.
At last week's meeting, members said they feared the high density of properties - and corresponding rise in the town's population - could put an intolerable strain on Llandeilo's existing facilities.
And they question whether the town's infrastructure is sufficient to cope.
"We're possibily talking about another 500-600 people in the northern end of Llandeilo," said deputy mayor Edward Thomas "Such an influx would obviously have a major impact on the town.
"We'd be failing in our duty if we didn't stop to consider what effect this would have on health and leisure facilities, as well as local schools."
Town mayor Richard Wallace felt parking issues were also a cause for concern.
"Although they have parking facilities on the development, how many households have more than one car?" he asked.
"I just cannot see people walking from Pencrug into Llandeilo and we already have a town with major parking problems, as it is.
"Our car parks are already full on Fridays and Saturdays so we are entitled to ask where these extra vehicles are going to park when they are brought into town."
