An Ammanford stage school principal who has helped raise more that £20,000 for Wales Air Ambulance following the tragic death of her friend has landed a job with the charity.

Elin Murphy co-founded Encore with Rebecca Evans, who was tragically killed in a collision on the M4 in November 2016.

Rebecca was heavily pregnant at the time.

Her young son Cian was saved by Wales Air Ambulance which led to the theatre group holding fundraising events in Rebecca's memory.

The mother-of-four said: “It was through Encore stage school where my association with Wales Air Ambulance began.

“My dear friend and Encore co-partner Rebecca Evans tragically lost her life after a fatal road traffic collision on the M4 in 2017.

“Wales Air Ambulance flew to her aid but sadly it was too late for Becca.

“The crews did however save Rebecca’s young son Cian who has made a remarkable recovery despite losing his mum.

“From that moment we all decided at Encore to hold events in Becca’s memory and raise money for this amazing charity.

“To date, we have raised over £20,000 for Wales Air Ambulance and were invited to perform in front of HRH Prince of Wales during the official opening of the charity Headquarters in Llanelli.

“After visiting the HQ in Dafen many times over the past year and building up a great relationship with the staff and crew, the fundraising team offered me a job.

“This was obviously an offer too good to miss and a real honour for me.”

Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, Mark Stevens said: “We would like to welcome Elin to the team in Dafen.

“She is a great addition and will undoubtedly build on the existing bonds forged by Clive in the Carmarthenshire community.

“We are very pleased to have her on board and look forward to working with her.”

Mrs Murphy will replace recently retired local charity community co-ordinator Clive Scourfield, who has worked with the charity since 2014.

Elin added: “Despite the negative situation surrounding my introduction to Wales Air Ambulance, I now hope to turn this into a positive by helping to raise important funds for the charity.”
