Nia Griffith MP is supporting the National Farmers’ Union’s campaign to Back British Farming.
Attending an event in Parliament to mark British Farming Day on September 12, Llanelli’s MP donned a wheat-pin badge and pledged her support for Welsh farmers.
Ms Griffith explained: “It is absolutely vital that we support UK farmers for our future food security. They are the lifeblood of our rural economies and communities.
“As one of the sectors that will be most affected by Britain’s departure from the EU, it is important that we ensure our farmers can continue to provide safe and affordable food.
“The UK Government must recognise the need to support British farming post-Brexit. The Conservatives have left farmers very unclear about the future of their industry, and the time has come to put our industries and the livelihoods that depend on them first.
“I value the enormous contribution farmers make to our communities here in Llanelli.
"They make such a difference by producing food for consumption locally and maintaining the countryside… not to mention their contribution to the local economy and the rural jobs they create.
“Welsh farming in particular has a good reputation for human health protection, environmental standards and animal health and welfare.
“I would encourage all MPs and members of the pubic to get behind the NFU’s important campaign and Back British Farming.”
