Gorslas Welfare Association has announced that this weekend’s Gwyl Gorslas has been cancelled.

A statement from the Chairman of the association, Ellis Davies, reads: “It is with disappointment that Gorslas Welfare Association has had to cancel the above event that was planned to be held in the village on Saturday, September 8.

“The committee made the decision for a number of reasons, including a poor weather forecast for Saturday, and in the light of feedback from the community as there was no carnival this year.

“We also took on tour the views of many people who have supported events in the village since the carnival was restarted five years ago.

“It was not a decision that was taken lightly. We are aware that some people may be disappointed, but the overwhelming response was that people wished to wait until the usual carnival was held once again in the village rather then participate in a much smaller event.

“No plans were made for a village carnival in 2018 as it was expected that Gorslas Park would not have been available and that construction of the new primary school would have started by now.

“The Welfare Association is grateful to those businesses including Tafarn y Phoenix and Cwmcerrig Farm Shop and Grill. Who supported the event.”
