A Blaenau cakemaker is set to see her creative skills on the small screen next week as part of a wacky wedding programme.

Marrying Mum and Dad is a CBBC television series which lets the children plan their parents’ wedding.

The episode which features self-taught DeeDee Robinson sees brother and sister team Eve and Iwan plan a wedding that is straight out of a fantasy bestseller with trolls, goblins and a fire-breathing dragon, not to mention a challenge to retrieve the wedding rings from a stinky swamp.

Owner of Cake DeeVine, DeeDee said: “I have been into art for years, but I have only baking for around four years.

“I baked my first cake for my eldest child’s first birthday. I posted a picture of the cake online, which was a Prince themed cake, and it spiralled from there.

“Since then I have been making cakes for families and friends and I am currently fully booked until November and making between four and five cakes a week.

“My business is purely on Facebook and it has taken off extremely well.”

“Before I started a business I was an army wife.

“I taught myself all I know by watching Youtube videos and finding recipes.”

It was the social networking site that helped the mother-of-three get her creative cake onto the television.

“I received a message on Facebook in April this year,” said the 29-year-old.

“I had about four weeks to make this monster cake with a specific brief decided by the two children on the show.

“It took around two weeks to prepare and around four days to put together.

“The swap was made from lime jelly and the majority of the cake was made with chocolate and rice crispies.

“The monster cake was my first major structure cake. I had to take it from Tycroes to Newton House which was nerve-wracking, but I managed to get it there in one piece with the help of my family.”

On the programme, Eve and Iwan decide on a strange beasts and odd lands theme wedding and create a model of their ideal cake which is brought to life by DeeDee.

The creative cake is greatly received by the bride and groom and was hailed a swampy success.

You can catch DeeDee's cake on Marrying Mum and Dad on August 16 at 8.30am on CBBC or BBC iPlayer.
