It has been an incredible 12 months for an Amman Valley schoolgirl.

Madison Davies began competiting in her first Trampoline and Artistic Gymnastics season last year.

In July 2017, Maddie walked away with a gold medal and was named Gemau Cymru Champion at the Gemau Cymru competition in Sophia Gardens.

Just three months later, the 11-year-old competed in the British Artistic Championships in Telford where she was crowned Woman’s Floor champion before flying through the qualifying rounds to represent Wales in the NDP’s.

As well as competing on a national level, Madison has also represented her school Ysgol Y Bedol in school’s competition where she has won numerous medals and is currently the Under 11 Category 2 Elite British Schools Champion.

At the end of 2017, Madison was named Disability Gymnast of the Year with Neath Afan Gymnastics Club and was also given the same title at the West Wales awards.

In March this year, the schoolgirl started the qualifying rounds for the League Trampolining Championships and got the opportunity to represent Wales in Birmingham at the NDP'S regional team finals for the first time in June. She was crowned Welsh Champion and helped team Wales to win the Disability Cup.

This led onto the British Finals in Nottingham last month where Madison won a silver medal making her the second best in Britain in her age level and category.

Mum Hayley told the Guardian: “This past year has been a rollercoaster of competitions and travel but we have loved every minute of it and can't wait for it to start again in October.

“We are so proud of Maddie and everything she has achieved.

“The support she has had from family, friends and the local community has been amazing.

“As a family we would like to thank Maddie's coaches from Neath Afan Gymnastics Club and Neath Flyers Trampolining Club Rachel, Gemma and Nikki for their hard work and dedication.

“Without them Maddie wouldn't be doing as well as she is.”

This is just the beginning for Madison as she will be competing in the League finals this November in Sheffield and has also been contacted to be part of the Special Olympics team.
