A group of slimmers from Ammanford and Llandybie have raised over £550 for Amman Valley Hospital by hosting a swishing event.

The money went to help the Amman Valley Hospital League of Friends who are fighting to keep the hospital open.

Paula Griffiths, who runs the two local south Wales Weight Watchers groups, gathered her members together along with all their outsize clothes since shedding their pounds and began a swishing event to raise money.

Swishing is the latest craze in ethical shopping.

Parties are a great way of raising money and giving people a chance to get rid of the items in your wardrobe you no longer need, no longer fit, unwanted gifts and unmitigated fashion disasters. You can Improve your wardrobe by exchanging items for some new outfits.

The rules of swishing state that everyone must bring at least one item of quality clothing, you have half an hour to browse before the swish opens, no item may be claimed before the swish opens and everyone may take what they want as soon as the swish is declared open.

Paula and her weight watchers team who are local to the Amman Valley Hospital are very passionate about supporting their local community hospital.

The hospital’s League of Friends have been worked tirelessly to raise funds to get a car park for visitors to the hospital to use.

Paula said: “The future of our community hospital is at risk while the Health Board decide where best they can save money.

“We would like to continue to bring attention to the efforts of the League of Friends to show that the hospital is a valuable resource to us.

“We are showing that the community will do their best to show their support.”

After the event was over, the weight watchers had raised £557.60 which they presented to Dilys Richards, secretary of the Amman Valley Hospital League of friends.
