When John Smith, a member of Ammanford Lions Club, heard that Cylch Meithrin Saron a’r Hendre wanted to celebrate their 50th anniversary he asked his club to help.

The Lions voted unanimously to donate £300 towards the celebration and the school garden.

Annette Price, the school leader, said “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of Ammanford Lions.

"Now we can celebrate the 50th anniversary in style on July 11. We are selling tickets and everyone is welcome. “

Teresa Ellsmore, Play Assistant, added: “The Lions also came along and weeded and tidied our garden area ready for the children to plant the flowers donated by Saron Nursery.

“They have donated planters and will help us build a more permanent gazebo after ours blew down in Storm Hector. “

Cylch Meithrin Saron a'r Hendre playgroup was started by Mrs Heulwen Rees, wife of Rev Lyn Rees of Saron Chapel.

In 1968 she had young children and there were no facilities in the area so she opened the Ysgol Meithrin in the chapel vestry.

The Lions are always pleased to have volunteers to help them with their many projects.
