Have you ever lost your patience trying to show a relative how to use technology?

Worry not as pupils from an Ammanford primary school have taken it upon themselves to help residents at a nearby residential home use an iPad.

Year 5 pupils from Ysgol Bro Banw have teamed up with residents at Llys Newydd Care Home in Capel Hendre to help bridge the digital divide between the generations and to share some digital skills.

The first visit took place last Tuesday which was praised by the residents at the care home.

Activities co-ordinator Wendy Piekarski told The Guardian: “The first session went really well and the residents thoroughly enjoyed being in the company of our young visitors.

“The children were very well behaved and the residents were impressed.

“They couldn’t believe how quick you can find out information by searching the internet and they also enjoyed listening to songs.

“Some liked the fact that you can scroll instead of turning a page which some residents have problem doing.

“Some have asked for an iPad already and they are looking forward to their next visit.

“They are going to use a green screen next week so they will enjoy that.

“In the past we have done a royal wedding, celebrated Burns night and had a visit from Enoch the Donkey but this is something completely different.

Lucy Lock, Digital teacher at Ysgol Bro Banw, said: “This experience allows children to think critically about some complex digital issues in society and challenge any stereotypes they may have about this older generation.

“The children were not only able to share key skills but listen to stories and form special friendships.”

“The first visit went really well and we will continue the partnership with Llys Newydd and have been invited to return next week.

"The children are using a skills matrix to track the digital progress of their new friends and are eager to continue their new journey."
