Llandybie Twinning Association has helped their French friends celebrate a special anniversary by leaving their mark in the village.
The bi-annual trip of Plonéour-Lanvern Twinning Association to Llandybie took place over the May Bank Holiday weekend and marked the 25th anniversary of their first trip back in 1993.
Last year, the South Wales Guardian reported that a new square in Plonéour-Lanvern was created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Association.
Square de Llandybie is situated in the centre of the town with commemorative signs and trees planted especially for the occasion.
This year it was the turn of Llandybie to commemorate the anniversary with the dedication of a memorial stone and plaque on a small green next to the Blaenau Road as it enters Llandybie. This will be known as “Place Plonéour”.
The dedication ceremony was attended by both Twinning groups and conducted by David Tegwyn Rees and Wendy Leslie, respectively Chair and Vice-Chair of Llandybie Twinning Association; Christian le Coursonnois and Pierre Gloanec, Chair and Vice-Chair of Plonéour-Lanvern Twinning Association and Senator Michel Canevet, of Plonéour-Lanvern, in the presence of Councillor Anthony Davies, Jonathan Edwards MP and Mr and Mrs Chris James of Glo Bryn Bach Coal.
A decorative sign indicating the distance from Llandybie to Plonéour-Lanvern was also unveiled.
Llandybie Twinning Association would like to thank Glo Bryn Bach Coal for sponsoring the commemorative stone and plaque and Martyn Ingram, MD of Morgan Marine, Llandybie who sponsored and created the road signs.
The design and print work was by Jason Griffiths of Black Mountain Signs and Design in Betws.
Other events during the trip included visits to the Welsh Botanical Gardens in Llanarthne, the Museum of Welsh Life in St Fagan’s, an afternoon tea and a celebratory dinner with entertainment at Llandybie Rugby Club, and a walk with views of Llandybie.
