AN AMMANFORD fun day which has raised over £10,000 for various local charities over the last three years is set to return this summer.

Super Fun Saturday will take place on Saturday, July 28 but before the main kicks off, organisers are set to face their biggest challenge to date and they want your help.

Over 40 participants have signed up to face to Welsh Three Peak Challenge in 24 hours on June 2.

All involved have agreed to raise a minimum of £100 to hopefully raise £10,000 this year for the selected charities which are Grand Appeal children’s charity, Born on the Edge, Ammanford junior sports clubs fund, Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, Maggie’s Cancer Support and Swn Y Gwynt counselling service.

Solid Fuel Services spokesperson Ryan Jones, who is taking part in the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge, said: “Participants have been encouraged to invite family and friends to join them in completing the final peak at Pen Y Fan to hopefully raise further funds.

“The idea is to get 100 people from Ammanford and the surrounding area to push us up Pen Y Fan as it will be our last peak.

“Ammanford has been chosen this year as the Town of Culture so let’s show everyone that the town is full of team spirit.

“The more people that turn up, the more the community will benefit.”

“We set off at 4am and we should be at Pen Y Fan at around 4pm after climbing Snowdon and Cadair Idris so why not meet as at Pen Y Fan and help us climb the last hurdle.”

Jonathan Edwards MP has confirmed that he will be climbing Pen Y Fan alongside members of the South Wales Guardian.

Carmarthen and East Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards said: "The activities of SFS are growing every year, highlighting how local communities once again come together to fund raise for great local causes.

"I've enjoyed joining in over the years, and I'm looking forward to playing a small part towards the end of this year's challenge by climbing Pen y Fan.

"Given the tremendous support SFS gives to the deserving causes, I would kindly encourage as many people as possible to join them in their efforts next month."

If you would like to join the fundraising event and climb Pen Y Fan to the submit and back, there are sponsor forms available at the South Wales Guardian office.

Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £30 to take part in the Pen Y Fan challenge.
