TWO Ammanford teenagers were invited to London and to Buckingham Palace to collect awards.

Jac Price, 17, and Jay Williams, 18, travelled to London to collect Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards last week, and their journey even included a chance meeting with Joanna Lumley.

The pair, who both attend Ysgol Dyffryn Aman and live in Ammanford, started their Duke of Edinburgh award process when they were 14.

Working with the school, they completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh and then continued on to complete their silver and gold awards with the Llanelli Open Group.

It was typically challenging for the both of them as they encountered all the elements to claim their awards.

During their silver expedition Jay and Jac faced frost and torrential rain for the most part of the trip, but also risked sunburn by the end of the three days.

Even the train journey to London to collect their award proved eventful following a chance meeting with actress, Joanna Lumley.

They ended up being part of her new advert for a Coca Cola tea drink.

Jac’s mother, Vanessa Price, said she was extremely proud of the boys.

She added: “They have found it challenging, however I think they can see that all the hard work and commitment to extra activities, such as volunteering has been worth it.

“They have matured and grown in confidence over the last three years.”

The boys were presented with their Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards at Buckingham Palace by Princess Anne on Thursday.

Now the focus for them shifts onto completing their A levels at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, before heading to university in September.
