Llandeilo business owner Claudine Longuiera-Barr and her dog Billie have been selected to represent Team Wales at the 2018 World Agility Open Championships this week.

The World Agility Open (WAO) takes place in Ermelo, The Netherlands from May 18 until May 20 and is designed to provide the ultimate in dog agility competition where speed, efficiency, and consistency are all necessary for success, and showcase the highest level of agility training, human/canine partnership, and athleticism

Over the last 25 years, Claudine has enjoyed taking part in dog agility competitions and is now set to take on the best from across the globe with her seven-year-old rescue dog Billie.

Australian Kelpie Billie was rescued by Claudine when she was just a year old from Morgans Dog Rescue in Cumbria.

Dog lover Claudine tried out to be part of Team Wales in October last year and later received her invite to take part in the competition and be part of the 20-member strong Team Wales.

The duo will be in Holland for over a week in total and will be competing in different events over three days.

Owner and jeweller of Barr & Co in Llandeilo, Claudine, 47, said: “This is always something I have wanted to do.

“I have taken part in Crufts and Olympia in the past and this is the next step for me and Billie.

“We have been training for the last six months and we have been both getting fit ahead of the competition.”

“I would like to thank everyone for their support and to the local businesses who have sponsored me.”

A member of staff at Barr & Co told The Guardian: “We are all so proud of Claudine and her dog Billie, as she has worked so hard training her dog and getting herself fitter.

“We wish her the best of luck.”
