An Ammanford cadet will have the chance to rub shoulders with royalty this weekend after receiving an invitation to the royal wedding.

Ffion Jenkins, 17, has been selected to attend the forthcoming wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which takes place at Windsor Castle this Saturday, May 19.

The Ysgol Dyffryn Aman pupil has been involved with the Volunteer Police Cadet Unit in Ammanford for three years and was chosen to become a Lord Lieutenant cadet for Dyfed-Powys last year by Lord-Lieutenant Sara Edwards.

Her hard work and contribution to the Lieutenancy has enabled the student to watch the wedding at the grounds of Windsor Castle as part of the 1200 lucky members of the public.

“I found out that I was going to the wedding about a month after the engagement was announced but I only received the invitation just over a week ago,” said Ffion, who is currently studying for her AS exams which begin this week.

“I expected to be standing with everyone on the streets by the castle, but I was shocked to find out that I have been invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle.”

“I feel proud, excited and very honoured to be invited to his historic event.

“There have been six cadets invited in total across the different forces.”

This isn’t the first time Ffion has received some royal treatment as she got the opportunity to open the car door for Prince Charles during his visit to Myddfai last year.

Ffion will be heading to London for the big day on Friday along with mum Geraldine - who will be accompanying Ffion to the wedding - twin sister, grandmother and auntie.

Despite the hype surrounding the wedding itself, Ffion is excited to see one royal in the flesh.

“It has always been my dream to see Prince Harry,” she said.

“I am so excited to see him.

“We have the opportunity to go into the church after the ceremony, so I am looking forward to doing that too.”

Ffion’s mum Geraldine added: “We are very proud of Ffion and we are looking forward to attending the big day.
