A BRYNAMAN woman has completed the London Marathon in memory of her sister and father.

Megan Morgan, 27, lost her sister and father in the last few years, and was determined to do something positive in their memory.

On Sunday, Megan completed the prestigious marathon, raising money for Barnardo’s Cymru.

She said: “My sister, Gwenllian, had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Barnardo’s Cymru gave the family a lot of support at a difficult time.

“We found it hard to cope but Barnardo’s provided counselling, taught us coping strategies and would take Gwenllian for days out.

“The support they gave the family really helped us through. I though there could be no better charity to run for.”

Gwenllian died in 2009 when she was just 16, and their father, Huw, passed away last year.

It has been a difficult time for Megan, but the marathon gave her something to focus on, and motivation to raise money for the charity that supported her family.

Megan, who works as an event organiser at Cardiff’s Radisson Blu hotel, said: “When I watched the London Marathon last year I thought I wanted to be part of such an amazing experience.

“It was far, far too warm, particularly since I’d done some of my training in the snow. Very early on I decided that I was going to adopt the motto ‘finish line, not finish time’.

“The atmosphere was incredible, strangers were shouting my name and wishing me good luck, it was amazing. The best thing for me was seeing my friends and family multiple times along the route, it really kept me going when I needed it most. From mile 19 to mile 22 felt like forever but crossing the finish was amazing.”

Megan completed the marathon in six hours and 12 minutes raising £2,400 for Barnardo’s Cymru.
