TWO friends will buckle themselves into the batmobile as they travel to Benidorm in aid of Canolfan yr Enfys.

Richard Francis, 43, and Chris Hanham, 31, will be dressed as Batman and Robin as they drive through Wales, England, France and Spain for charity.

The pair have entered the Benidorm Banger Race to raise money for the Rainbow Unit in Ysgol Bro Banw.

They have bought a banger and converted it in to a batmobile, but rather than crime fighting they will be fundraising.

Richard explained: “Chris and myself were sat down last year having a couple of drinks, and the idea came up in conversation. We decided we would give it a go.

“It’s not something we have much experience with, but we always like a good road trip, though admittedly this is taking it slightly to the extreme.”

A total of 85 teams will compete in the banger race next month.

The pair will start from London, before travelling to Paris and heading down to Benidorm in Spain.

They will be taking supplies to hand out to the orphans in the region when they get down there as well as raising money for Canolfan yr Enfys.

Richard added: “It is for charity. We wanted to make sure we were supporting something local, which is why we chose the Rainbow Unit at Ysgol Bro Banw.

“One of my children goes to the school so we have a connection with it.

“I can’t tell you why we ended up settling on the batman theme to be honest. I think it may have been a result of a few pints last year, but some of the best ideas are found at the bottom of a pint glass.

“We bought ourselves a banger and did it up, and now we’re ready to get going.”

A fundraising event is being held on Friday at the Red Kite Inn, in Pontamman Road, Ammanford, in aid of Richard and Chris’ challenge.
