A group which provides fun activities for young people with additional needs is in desperate need of a minibus.

Carmarthen Breakthro, based in Nantgaredig, is a not-for-profit organisation provides leisure, social and fun activities for children aged between four and 18 with additional needs who around the Carmarthenshire area.

The group has already raised £7,000 by organising several fundraising events and donations, but the vehicle is going to cost around £25,000.

Group co-ordinator Emyr Beynon has teamed up with one of the parents for the latest fundraising event, a mind, body and spirit event which will be held at the Halliwell Centre, Trintiy College, Carmarthen from 10am until 6pm on Saturday, April 28.

“The event is organised by one of our parents, Sarah Powell, who is a talented therapist,” said Emyr.

“This is the fifth event of its kind that she’s organised in aid of Breakthro, and each one has grown bigger and bigger each time.”

“There will be over 40 therapists, readers and retailers present on the day offering a wide range of treatments and natural products.”

Entry will be charged at £2 entry with children under 16 going free.

Taster treatments are priced at £15 each and include Reflexology, Indian head massage, Sports massage, Aromatherappy, Facials, Warm bamboo massage, Angelic reiki and Spiritual Healing and many more.

There will also be stalls available including handmade bags and jewellery, natural moisturising bars,

Crystals, original paintings, handmade greetings cards, bespoke wines healthy cakes, desserts and pastries.

Last year, The Guardian reported that The Salutation Inn, in Pontargothi, was holding a monthly charity event in the form of a curry and quiz night.

Emyr Beynon added: “We have already raised a couple of thousand pounds by taking part in different fundraising activities.

“We would like to thank The Salutation Inn and the teams for their donations and we hope to purchase a new mini bus to able to take more children out on day trips and fun outings.

“The minibus is a lifeline for us as a charity, it allows us to access events within our local and wider community as well as visits to local attractions.

“The minibus gives the children opportunities to new experiences and adventures whilst creating lifelong memories.

“We are hosting more events in the new year to boost our fund.”
