AN Amman Valley dad is set to face his biggest challenge to date this weekend for a charity close to his heart.

Julian Jones, of Brynaman, is raising money for Asthma UK by taking part in the London Marathon this Sunday, April 22.

The father-of-two chose to fundraise for the charity to raise awareness for young people living with the condition and to show not to give up when times are hard.

“I have been asthmatic all my life and realise how hard times effect everyday life,” said Julian, 27.

“When I applied back in May 2017, I was entered into a ballot draw of 385,000 runners hoping to gain a place but I was unsuccessful and hugely disappointed when the results were announced in October.

“I immediately went onto the list of qualifying charities to try and gain a place on their behalf.

“Asthma UK was the obvious choice for me due to the difficulties I suffered when I was a child resulting in being rushed to hospital on several occasions.”

Over the last six months, Julian has dedicated most of his time to training several times a week with Amman Valley Harriers.

On Friday, April 13 a fundraiser was organised by Julian at Cwmgors Rugby Club, which raised £1,142.40 to go towards his overall target.

He added: “I would like to thank everyone that donated prizes for the auction and also a big thank you to everyone who came to support.

“I am looking forward to taking part on Sunday and hoping all the training has paid off.”
