YOUNG people aged 11-25 who are keen to make a difference and have their say on issues in the county are being invited to attend Carmarthenshire Youth Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The Youth Council is made up of 42 young people from across the county who represent the views of young people to those in positions of influence and raise issues of relevance to them, with the intention of making a change for the benefit of all young people in the county.

Recent campaigns include the ongoing national ‘Votes@16’ campaign which is trying to lower the current voting age from 18 to 16 years old and raising awareness of mental health in young people through their #storiharriet campaign.

The AGM on Wednesday, April 25 will also be a chance for the Youth Council to look back on their achievements over the past year and discuss and share their views on issues and campaigns they want to look at addressing in the coming year. The election of new officers will also take place at the meeting in the Chamber at County Hall in Carmarthen from 5pm until 7pm.

Attending the meeting will be Gareth Morgans, Director of Education and Children services; Councillor Emlyn Dole, Leader of the Council; Councillor Glynog Davies, Executive Board Member for Education & Children; members of the executive board; Chair and Vice Chair of Scrutiny and senior managers from education and children’s services.

Cllr Glynog Davies, executive board member for education and children’s services, said: “Members of the Youth Council do great work and it’s a privilege to work with this team of young people and seeing what they achieve - especially in the last year.

"I look forward to continuing to work and support the Youth Council this year and I would urge any young person who wants to be involved in making a difference for the benefit of other young people in the county to come along and find out more about the Youth Council at the AGM.”

Chairperson of Carmarthenshire Youth Council, Brittany Alsop-Bingham, aged 20, from Garnant, said: “After all the hard work that the Youth Council has been doing over the last 12 months it will be nice to see the new members of the CYC all together for our AGM.

"I am really looking forward to getting everyone involved in our work going forward.”
