An annual summer event which has raised thousands of pounds for charities is making a welcome return this year and promises to raise even more funds to help local causes.

Over the last three years, Super Fun Saturday, which is organised by SFS in conjunction with other partners, has raised £15,000 for local charities including Smile like Fenton and Ryan4Leuckemia and defibrillators for Ammanford and Penygroes.

The money raised from this year’s events will be split equally between Grand Appeal children’s hospital charity Born on the Edge, Ammanford Junior Sports Club Fund, Swn y Gwynt Community Mental Health Team, Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and Maggie’s Cancer Support Care.

This year SFS have added a new challenge to the mix.

Over 31 walkers have signed up to tackle the Welsh Three Peak Challenge and have agreed to raised £100 each to help get reach an overall target of £10,000 for the nominated beneficiaries.

The challenge will take place on Saturday, June 2 starting at 4am at the foot of Snowdon. The group will then climb three of the highest peaks in Wales – Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan within 24 hours.

The other legs of the fundraising goal are a morning sponsored cycle ride and the annual Super Fun Saturday event, which will both take place on Saturday, July 28.

SFS spokesperson Ryan Jones said: “Over the last three years SFS have been hosting charities events at Ammanford Park along with a bike ride which to date has raised £15,000 for local charities.

“My personal pledge this year, with the help of 30 other local people and the public, is to try and achieve a target of £10,000 this year which will benefit five nominated charities and local groups in the Ammanford area.”

“This year is going to be bigger and better and we look forward to seeing you all in Ammanford Park on July 28.”

The fourth annual Super Fun Saturday event includes the Ammanford v Pontarddulais cricket match as well as plenty of other activities which will entertain all the family.

The bike ride is also returning this year and 40 cyclists have already signed up to the challenge.

“If you would like to get involved in the bike ride, please contact SFS on 01269 597694,” added Ryan.
