Carmarthen East and Dinefwr Assembly Member has spoken out about the GP out-of-hours service following the news that several hospitals, including Glangwili and Prince Phillip, were closed over the weekend due to staff shortages.

Adam Price AM said: "This afternoon I spent time with constituents in the community of Ferryside who are concerned by the lack of GP provision in their area.

"It seems there really is a crisis in terms of both daily and out-of-hours primary care provision which needs to be urgently addressed.

"Much has been made in recent weeks and months of the Health Board's plans to transform clinical services, but the reality is that none of those proposals can work unless the health board gets to grips with the primary care crisis.

"The Health Board is already at an official 'Targeted Intervention' level – the third of four stages of intervention with the fourth being 'Special Measures'.

"We have to question whether the Welsh Government is providing enough support to Hywel Dda, and I would be keen to meet the Primary Care Team to see what pressure I and other elected members can bring to bear on the Welsh Government."
