A Cardigan town centre public house is changing hands for the second time in less than two years and will re-open for business on Friday, February 9.

After retirement of the licensee in February 2016 the watering hall, which dates back to the early 19th century, was closed for some months but re-opened under local bookmaker and Red Lion licensee John Williams.

The pub ceased trading on Sunday, January 28, sparking speculation in the town over whether it would re-open, but the owners - Wolverhampton-based brewery Marston’s - confirmed that the pub is to be under new management.

A spokesman for the company said “Sadly, Marston’s have to say goodbye to John Williams and thank him for his time at the Saddlers.

“Gary Pulley and Lorraine Turnbull took up occupation of the pub on Friday (February 2) and after a brief period getting the pub ready to welcome customers will re-open on February 9.”

And he added “We wish Gary and Lorraine all the very best in their new venture and would like to thank our loyal customers for bearing with us during the changeover.”
