The Tigers are roaring in the Amman Valley after hearing the latest sporting news.

Penybanc Juniors RFC team manager Marc Jones has been shortlisted for the Sports Volunteer of the Year award at the Actif Carmarthenshire Sports Awards.

Marc, of Bonllwyn, has been involved with the club for over six years and has taken the club from strength to strength.

“We currently have around 100 juniors across the five junior teams.” said Marc.

“We are developing year on year and we work closely with the WRU and Scarlets coaching staff on an initiative, where every player has equal time on the pitch.

“There is also a lot of hard work which takes place off the field which involves applying for community grants, planning curry nights and getting involved in the local carnivals.

“It is not all about the winning and we encourage all our players to have fun.

“I am honoured to be recognised by my colleagues at Penybanc RFC.

“I think the secret to our club success is the fact we are a tight unit and everyone pulls together from the coaching staff to the parents.”

The annual Actif Carmarthenshire Sports Awards recognise the sporting achievements and successes of individuals, sports clubs, school teams as well as acknowledging the contribution made by dedicated coaches and hardworking working volunteers who really make a difference through sport and to our communities.

The Sports Volunteer of the Year Award can go to any male or female over 21, who has given up their time and energy to lead and inspire within an organisation.

Head coach Emyr Thomas, who nominated Marc for the award, said: On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Mark for all the time and effort he puts in.

“It is not just what we see on a Wednesday and Sunday, but he also spends hours organising and planning events for the juniors and we can’t thank him enough.

Marc will be battling it out against Steve Percy and Mari-Ann Jones for the award and will find out his fate at the Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli on Friday, February 2.
