A SPATE of quad bikes have been stolen from farms across the Gwendraeth and Towy Valleys.

Dyfed Powys Police officers in the Cross Hands, Llandeilo and Llandovery area are investigating the thefts.

There have been bikes reported stolen in the rural areas including Llangadog, Myddfai, Ffarmers, Llanarthne amongst numerous other rural locations.

Sergeant Andrew Williams has urged people to be vigilant of suspicious vehicles and people in the rural communities.

He said: “I ask that local farmers take appropriate action to minimise the opportunities of these thefts occurring. This includes removing keys from ignitions after use, locking barns or outbuildings wherever the quads may be kept.

“I ask that any suspicious activity is reported to police for it to be investigated accordingly.

"I would also ask that quad bikes are not stored, if at all possible, at derelict locations with no security.

“I am aware that thefts of quad bikes and farming machinery causes disruption to farmers’ work, as well as the financial implications, and I would like to reassure the public that police are thoroughly investigating these matters and are actively patrolling these areas, to target those responsible for committing crimes in our area.

“Local neighbourhood officers will also be visible in local marts to offer crime prevention advice and to engage with local farmers.

"Should anyone have any information with regards to these crimes, please contact officers at your local stations or by calling 101.”
