A barmaid has been found guilty of stealing crisps and cash from the Ammanford pub she worked at.

Claire Jones, aged 40, stood trial at Swansea crown court this week accused of seven offences of theft.

Jones, of Close y Felin, Ammanford, was cleared of two offences but convicted of one offence of stealing an unknown quantity of cash and four of stealing one packet of crisps, two packets on two occasions and four packets.

The prosecution told the jury how CCTV cameras covered the bar area, including the tills, at the Red Kite Inn on Pontamman Road.

On one occasion the takings for meals was not put through the till at all.

On another Jones was accused of first turning off the lights so that the cameras could not film what she was doing.

Jones told the jury she was under the impression that staff were allowed to help themselves to crisps.

She denied ever taking any cash.

Judge Keith Thomas said he would sentence Jones, a single mother, on January 5 to allow time for a probation officer to prepare a report into her background.

But he warned her that a prison sentence could be the outcome.

Jones was granted bail until then.
