Tributes have been paid to a man and woman who died in a car crash, which left her 11-month-old baby injured.

18-year-old Naomi Carter and 23-year-old Jason Thomas died after their car hit a lamp-post.

The crash happened at around 3.15am on Saturday on Swansea Road in Trebanos, Pontardawe.

Miss Carter's 11-month-old son Brogan was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Their families said the pair, who both leave babies, would never be forgotten.

A police spokesman said on Saturday: “A black Peugeot 206 motor vehicle was travelling south, towards Clydach, when it lost control and collided with a lamppost.

The driver, a 23-year-old local man suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The front seat passenger, an 18-year-old local female, also suffered fatal injuries at the scene.”

Miss Carter's mother Kerry described her as a "cheeky, outgoing, fun-loving" woman, who loved life and enjoyed music, dancing and partying.

She said: "Naomi took to motherhood at a young age and cherished and loved her young son Brogan.

"She has left a massive hole in our hearts and will be missed every day. We as a family are heartbroken and will carry her memory on for Brogan.

"Our thoughts go to Jason's family also. Jason made Naomi happy in the last few months and I hope they both rest in peace together.

"Gone, but never forgotten and my heart goes out to Jason's family and friends."

Jason’s family have released a tribute today, who had earlier this year become a father.

Mr Thomas' family said he was a much loved family member who was "sensitive, emotional and thoughtful", and would "literally do anything to help anyone".

They said: "He was very respectful of the local community of Trebanos where he was very well known and they, in turn, respected him.

"Jason became a dad to Freya in May of this year and was besotted with his beautiful baby daughter.

"There are lots of children in our large family who all loved and doted on their favourite uncle Jason.

"It's such a tragedy to lose two such young people so suddenly and in the prime of their lives. Jason and Naomi will never be forgotten."
