FORMER pupils of Cwmtawe Comprehensive School are helping fund lifesaving research by organising a school reunion event as well as taking part in a walking challenge in memory of former classmates.

Clair Evans, from Pontardawe, is organising a school reunion at Pontardawe Golf Club on December 2 in memory of Kieran Sparrow and Adam Rumming in aid of British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru

As a result of this event, Clair’s friends decided to take part in the Fan Dance Challenge at the Brecon Beacons on October 21 and have raised over £1,000 so far for BHF Cymru.

Adam’s brother, Captain Paul Rumming is the Regimental Adjutant for The Royal Welsh, based at Maindy Barracks in Cardiff and Lance Corporal Jordan Davies, who was also best friends Keiran and Adam, decided to get involved by taking part in the Fan Dance.

Kieran Sparrow was just 16 when he passed away. He was an exceptional student and was even tipped to play rugby for Wales.

A decade later one of his best friends, Adam Rumming died at 27, while taking part in the second stage of the selection process for the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.

Clair said: ‘We had a great time over the weekend doing the Fan Dance challenge.

“I’m looking forward to the school reunion and I’m so overwhelmed by the response from people offering to help it’s going to be an amazing night.

“It’s an opportunity to catch up with old friends, remember those we have lost and help British Heart Foundation Cymru.”

Clair ‘s father passed away aged 31 of a heart condition so this is a cause that she feels passionate about and she’s really keen to help BHF.

Jayne Lewis, BHF Fundraising Manager for South West Wales said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Clair, Paul and Jordan for organising the Fan Dance challenge and also to everyone who came to support.

“Too many lives are lost in Wales each year, and we’re determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation.”
