Carmarthenshire libraries is getting ready to help people try out new things as part of national Get Online Week.

The week runs from October 2 until 8 and will see thousands of community events help people make the most of the internet.

This year, Carmarthenshire libraries will be holding Get Online Week events on Monday, October 9 at Carmarthen library, Wednesday, October 11 at Llanelli library and Friday, October 13 at Ammanford library.

There’ll be lots of free friendly support for anyone who wants to start doing a bit more online.

The Get Online Week theme this year is to ‘Try One Thing’ – encouraging people to use the internet to do just one thing they’d normally do in a shop or bank, in a doctor’s or chemist, or over the phone.

At Carmarthenshire libraries there are plenty of opportunities to try.

In the Digital library members can learn a new language or a new course, get up to speed on computer software with online tutorials, access to online academic journals, search through hundreds of encyclopaedias, learn a new course or practice for their driving theory test.

Plus there are over 19,000 comic books free for to download, over 500 interactive stories and activities for children, as well as over 200,000 images, audio files and videos.

Carmarthenshire’s mobile library, which visits outlying communities, also offers a range of digital services.

Carmarthenshire’s executive board member for leisure, Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, said: “Anyone who lives, works or studies in Carmarthenshire can enjoy our digital library.

“Our new mobile library provides doorstep access to computers and life changing opportunities in rural areas with free Wifi, photocopying and printing facilities, a range of services including universal credit, citizen’s advice and even job searching opportunities.

“So, whether you’re brand-new to the internet, or you want a bit of help making more out of being online, then Carmarthenshire libraries are here to help you take the next step.”
