It’s time to get digital at Carmarthenshire Libraries as part of this year’s International Literacy Day.

Library staff are preparing to upload an array of screen-based activities for the day, themed this year as ‘Literacy in a Digital World’, on Friday September 8.

As well as books, Carmarthenshire Libraries offer a range of free online e-books, audio books and an online news stand offering interactive digital magazines and a library of over 19,000 free downloadable comic books.

Library members can also practice for a driving theory test, learn a new language, get up to speed on computer software with online tutorials, have access to online academic journals, search through hundreds of encyclopaedias as well as over 200,000 images and audio files, and nearly 200 videos.

Younger members can choose from over 500 interactive stories and activities for children.

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for culture, sport and tourism, said: “In today’s digital age many of us do our reading online, so it is fantastic for you to be able to expand your knowledge or relax with our digital materials, and all for free, at our libraries.

“Of course, our libraries have over half a million books on offer so if it’s the smell or feel of a real book you enjoy then you won’t be short of options.

“Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to speak to local authors and enjoy the numerous resources that are held throughout Carmarthenshire Libraries.”
