A charity fun day is being held in Ammanford this weekend to ‘bat out’ prostate cancer.

Llanelli-based construction company Morganstone and its sister company Westacres Homes are hosting the second annual Ammanford Cricket Club ‘Bat Out Prostate Cancer’ charity fun day this Saturday, August 12 to raise much funds for Prostate Cymru, the Hywel Dda Urology Unit at Glangwili and Prince Phillip Hospitals.

Fun is guaranteed for all the family and admission is free. Whilst children get the chance to play cricket with members of the Ospreys rugby team and collect their autographs, adults can cheer on their chosen team, Ammanford Cricket Club or Pontarddulais Cricket Club as they battle for the trophy.

A bouncy castle, face painting and children’s arts and crafts are also on offer with beauty therapies, food and drink, a raffle and local Welsh stalls including My Vintage Delights ice creams to complete the line up.

The Fun Day starts at 10 am until late with evening entertainment and a charity auction.

Prostate Cymru is the prostate cancer charity for Wales. Founded in 2003 and based in Cardiff, its goal is to improve Welsh prostate health all across the country through the improvement of equipment, training staff and raising the nations understanding of prostate disease.

The Urology Unit Prostate fund is one part of the Hywel Dda Health Charities which supports patients, staff and services within the Hywel Dda University Health Board.

They exist to make a difference to thousands of people cared for by the University Health Board across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

Jeff Roach, Chairman of Ammanford CC, said:  “We chose to support these two charities as sadly, both Morganstone and Ammanford Cricket Club have been widely affected by prostate cancer.  “Together, we want to do whatever we can to assist in fighting this condition.

“Last year was an extremely well attended event and we were delighted to raise £2000.  Hopefully this year the community will continue to support the event and help us to raise as much money as possible.”

Ian Morgan, Morganstone Managing Director added: “We have very strong links with Ammanford Cricket Club and this event allowed our relationship to provide an opportunity for the community to get involved with some fun activities, meet Osprey players and most importantly raising funds for causes which are close to our hearts, so we are delighted to continue on last years success”.
